Resveratrol could be an antidepressant

By Dr. Rania Fouad Abdel-Rehim
A new study suggests that taking resveratrol daily could also help elevate the mood.

Resveratrol activates the SIRT1 gene and helps slow down the ageing process. In scientific experiments, anti-inflammatory, blood-sugar-regulation, arthritis control and other beneficial cardiovascular effects of resveratrol have been reported.

The research was conducted by Dr. Rania Fouad Abdel-Rehim at the Pharmacology Department of the National Research Centre (NRC) of Egypt, by using Harmoni-T Micro500 micronized resveratrol capsules. The research results indicate that high purity resveratrol could be a potential antidepressant.

The results has been authored and presented at “The First International Conference - Food and Agriculture: new Approaches” held in National Research Centre (NRC) in Cairo, Egypt on December 2 - 4, 2013 by Dr Rania F. Ahmed with the title of “Screening the hepatoprotective effect of resveratrol in an acute model of depression”, and then on the “5th International Congress on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIPAM)” in March 2014.

Stage2 of Dr Rania Fouad Abdel-Rehim’s research had already started and is expected to take about 6-8 months to complete. This next stage will include studies on the effect of resveratrol on depression associated with diabetes.
